We connect technology and industry

uptownBasel brings together quantum computing, AI, research and established companies on one campus in Arlesheim, near Basel.

PURPOSE

Where the future takes root

Every organisation on campus has a role to play. Together, they form an ecosystem where new technologies become real-world solutions.

Our role is to help this ecosystem thrive: connecting the organisations on site, welcoming new partners and sharing the work happening here with the region and the world.

What drives us

From global real estate to innovation infrastructure: after 30 years in real estate around the world, I’m now helping build an innovation campus with a global outlook: connected to the world, anchored in Europe and rooted in Basel.

Energy is the foundation for everything that happens on this campus. With the battery storage system, we've shown that infrastructure here isn't just planned – it's built and operated. One of the things that really drives me is that we don't simply draw energy, we actively shape it – both for the companies on campus and for the stability of the grid beyond it.

What drives me is finding solutions to complex challenges. Real estate is about people, understanding their needs and bringing different interests together. I enjoy taking responsibility, moving things forward and actively shaping the future of uptownBasel.

What I love about this job is also what makes it demanding: building communication from the ground up for a campus that is still taking shape, reaching many different audiences, and connecting local, European and global. It excites and challenges me every day.

What excites me most is that I get to organise all the group’s finances. I have an overview of all the figures and can see how the individual areas come together to form a clear overall picture. I like the fact that my work lays the groundwork for others to make decisions and put plans into action. I find it particularly motivating to bring order to complex procedures: every process that runs smoothly is a small success for me.

I’m close to everything that’s going on here. I see ideas turn into real projects – and I help make that happen.

What we stand for

Our vision

Electrical machines were built on this site from 1886. Today, it is where the next generation of technology meets industry. We bring together quantum computing, AI and the organisations that put them to work, on infrastructure that is already in place. Our aim is a campus where new technology turns into real-world solutions, where every organisation makes a clear contribution, and where energy and resources are used with care, so that the campus can be handed on to the generations that follow.
