As of 1 July 2025, Bardo Magel has officially taken over as CEO of the uptownBasel Group.
With extensive international experience in real estate, asset management and transactions, he will lead uptownBasel into its next phase of development and further strengthen the innovation campus as a location for technology, industry and collaboration.
Following his appointment earlier this year, Bardo Magel now assumes operational leadership of the uptownBasel Group. He succeeds Baschi Dürr, who served as the Group’s first CEO and played a key role in establishing its corporate and operational structures over the past four years.
With the change in leadership, uptownBasel is entering the next chapter of its development. The focus remains on the continued growth of the campus in Arlesheim, the development of its innovation ecosystem and the creation of an environment where established companies, technology partners and emerging businesses can collaborate and grow.
International experience for the next phase of uptownBasel
Bardo Magel brings many years of international experience in the real estate sector, with particular expertise in asset management, acquisitions and transaction management.
Most recently, he was a member of the Executive Management team at AFIAA Real Estate Investment AG in Zurich, where he was responsible for managing a global commercial real estate portfolio and led the company’s global asset management activities with teams in Zurich, New York and Sydney.
Previously, he held senior positions at Corpus Sireo Investment S.à r.l. in Luxembourg and Commerz Real AG in Wiesbaden. During his career, he has been responsible for international real estate portfolios and complex transactions across multiple markets.
This combination of international perspective, real estate expertise and management experience provides a strong foundation for the continued development of uptownBasel.
Continuing the development of a unique innovation ecosystem
uptownBasel is much more than a real estate development. On the historic Schoren site in Arlesheim, an international competence center for Industry 4.0 is taking shape, bringing together companies and organizations from industrial production, healthcare, logistics and digital technologies.
With QuantumBasel, its competence center for quantum computing and AI, as well as a growing network of technology and industry partners, uptownBasel is creating an ecosystem designed to foster exchange, collaboration and innovation across traditional industry boundaries.
As CEO, Bardo Magel will now lead the uptownBasel Group as this ecosystem continues to grow and the campus moves into its next stage of development.
We warmly welcome Bardo Magel to his new role and look forward to shaping the next chapter of uptownBasel together.
