Construction Starts on Building 1
On 26 March 2019, construction began on the first major building of uptownBasel. Over the coming years, a competence center for Industry 4.0 will emerge on the former industrial site on Schorenweg in Arlesheim.
A site with history
The roughly 70,000 m² site was once home to Brown Boveri & Cie (BBC) and had lain fallow for around 25 years. The start of construction marks the moment its transformation into an incubator for innovation and technology transfer began in earnest.
The first of nine buildings
Building 1 is the first of up to nine buildings planned for the campus. It later became "The Pioneer," with around 40,000 m² of floor space. Construction ran for about two and a half years. On 26 July 2021, Bouygues Energies & Services moved in as the first tenant.
What came next
Only a few months after construction began, the foundation stone was laid on 7 June 2019 together with the government of the Canton of Basel-Landschaft.
